We need your help to make this dream a reality!
Our Mission
We aim to build a state of the art climbing facility on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This facility will cater to elite climbers, beginners, vacationers and locals.
We aim to establish a support center for the climbing community and the Outer Banks Community, where climbers and families can engage in meaningful collaboration. We all have so much to offer one another; this climbing gym will be the centerpiece of an environment that will serve as a year round activities center.
We aim to provide nutrition and fitness education from the experts.
We aim to fund the gym without big investors so we can ensure a locally supportive community of fun people who care about each other.
Details:
The Climbing Gym will include family friendly/beginner climbing, a dedicated bouldering cave, lead and sport climbing as well as a speed wall. We will provide Teen Team Competition opportunities, Bouldering competitions and maybe one day we’ll host Olympic Climbing Team qualifying competitions.
Let’s include a fitness gym and a dog park for good measure.
About Us
We are Scott and Krystal Johnson and it is our dream to introduce the Outer Banks community to a state-of-the-art rock climbing facility that is fun, safe and innovative.
Scott and Krystal met at Virginia Commonwealth University where they both earned degrees in Environmental Science. Married for twenty years in Richmond, Virginia, it is finally time to make this dream a reality.
Scott learned how to climb on the Historic rock pillars of Manchester Wall along the James River. He started with traditional climbing, transitioned to sport climbing and finally settled on bouldering as his discipline of choice. Over the years he’s worked at several climbing gyms, taught middle school biology, gut renovated our home, and founded and operated a biodiesel rendering company. He knows the climbing world; he knows the business world and he is a born problem solver.
Krystal isn’t a rock climber, but don’t hold that against her. She loves the sport and all it has to offer. She spent her childhood in the fresh air and turned her love of the outdoors and nature into a rewarding career as a High School Science teacher. Managing classrooms of thirty-four teenagers for the last eighteen years hasn’t always been easy but Krystal loves a challenge. At the Most Diverse High School in Virginia, she has maintained a professional and inclusive atmosphere, planned technology filled lessons, and inspired a generation or two to be compassionate citizens of the world in her Environmental Science courses. She knows technology, organization and planning.
We are the right people to bring a climbing destination to the Outer Banks and we are so excited to begin this adventure!
